Servo open again

AFTER a couple of months having to leave town to put fuel in their cars, Evans Head residents can again fill up at their local.

Maree Mortimer and her husband Don have taken on the Matilda's Service Station on Woodburn St which they reopened on July 1.

Don, a former truck driver, has never worked in the service station trade before, but Maree is an old-hand, having owned a station at Murwillumbah.

Mr and Mrs Mortimer are working hard in the business after travelling the country.

"We were travelling before this, we travelled around Australia, but we came back home and we got a bit bored," Mrs Mortimer said.

"We not bored any more; we're working long hours and working hard but we are enjoying it.

"We both like people - we are people-people."

Matilda's will be open from 6am-6pm during winter but extended hours will be considered during summer.
