Serious crash sparks investigation

TWEED/Byron police have called for help from the public in investigating a crash that left a woman with serious injuries yesterday.

About 5.30pm yesterday a southbound Holden Commodore and northbound Mitsubishi Outlander 4WD collided heavily on the Pacific Highway at St Helena, between Coolamon Scenic Drive and the speed camera.

Police and emergency services were notified and officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended.

A 40-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Mitsubishi, was taken to the Tweed Hospital suffering multiple injuries, including internal.

The 28-year-old male driver of the Holden and the 50-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The crashed forced the closure of the highway and created a queue of traffic up to six kilometres long.
