Who is pinching show prizes from Northern Rivers bakeries?
A SECOND award-winning bakery has had its North Coast National bakery trophy stolen, after two were reported missing from Wurlitzer Bakery in Evans Head this week.
McCarthy's Bakery Alstonville co-manager Sara Fraser said she was surprised the thief took their second place trophy and not their first.
"Everyone's quite disgusted that someone would steal our trophies," she said. "And nobody's returned it either.
"I actually thought it was a bunch of silly kids just doing what silly kids do."
However, it seems someone else's awards are more desirable than you'd think.
The Star yesterday reported the Wurlitzer Bakery at Evans Head lost first and prize trophies to "sticky fingers".
The trophies were part of a haul of 27 awards the bakery had picked up at this year's North Coast National and they were stolen within days of the Wurlitzer receiving them.
Co-owner Helen Aarts was baffled by the theft.
"What would anyone else want with our trophies," she said.
Both bakeries would appreciate having their trophies returned.
