Serial offender gets nine months

WITHIN three months of being placed on a nine-month suspended prison sentence, Stephen Woods was caught three times driving unlicensed in an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, including once when he was drunk.

On Wednesday at Maclean Local Court he lost his freedom for nine months and his licence until December 2017.

Magistrate David Heilpern sentenced the 49-year-old Brooms Head man to nine months behind bars with a non-parole period of four months.

In sentencing Woods, Mr Heilpern took into account this was his eighth offence of driving while disqualified.

Mr Heilpern also disqualified Woods from holding a licence until December 9, 2017 and ordered him to pay $162 in court costs.

Woods will be eligible for release on May 10 this year.
