Semis action in softball

SOFTBALL semi-final action hits Albert Park in Lismore tonight for the Far North Coast open mixed and junior competitions.

The mixed competition has been split into two divisions to give teams maximum game time.

At 8pm in A division, Workers Buzzards and Goonellabah CCs will battle it out for a grand final start with the loser to play the winner of Dodgers Hotshots and Byron Bay Dirtysox.

Buzzards will start favorites. Chris Daley’s speed and accuracy from the mound will test out CCs batters but if CCs’ Mick Claydon and Tony Cowan can connect with a couple of those fast pitches their speed around the bases will put valuable runs on the board.

Buzzards will look to get maximum hitting value out of Mitchell Dowse and Jason Rucker.

Dodgers Hotsox will rely on Dan Loadsman and the Wyatt clan to get them over the line against Byron Bay Dirtysox key players Mel and Terri Currie. Young guns Sam Osborne and Ed Kelly will also need to fire.

In B division, strong batting side Goonellabah Meteors take on Workers Nightingales. Meteors’ Mark and Jono Grace will lead the attack with the bat.

Casino Coyotes and Dodger Coolshots will battle it out in the other game.

Dodgers dominate

DODGERS have scooped the pool in juniors with their Under-18s, 15s and 13s in the major semi-finals with an eye on a spot in the grand finals on March 26.

In the Under-18s at 6.30pm, undefeated Workers Mighty Ducks take on Dodgers Colts. With a strong all-round line-up, Workers will be hard to beat with Carlie Walker, Michael Cocciola and Jordan Gibbs leading the charge.

Colts but Emily Ross, James Baxter and Andrew Kelly will give their all to the end for Colts.

Casino Cubs and Dodgers Bandits play in the other match.

In the Under-15s at 5pm, little separates Dodgers Braves and Dodgers Lakers in their quest to be first through to the grand final. Expect big games form Hayden Watt, Jess Riley and Sam Osborne.

The other game between Casino and Goonellabah Wildcats could go either way.

In the Under-13s at 6.30pm, Dodgers Allstars might just have the edge over club rivals Dodgers Mustangs, while it should be close between Byron Hotsox and Goonellabah Cheetahs.
