Secret surf spot delivers

Brody Aleckson reports on Halftide Boardriders' recent comp ...

WITH the swell taking a nosedive overnight, it was time for another change of venue as Main Beach resembled something like a dog's breakfast.

The crew packed up and travelled north to a secret location only ever surfed by Neanderthals and long-haired hippies.

When we descended the massive sand dune we found some fun little

peaks which were tricky at times but produced some fun, workable rides, especially when the tide changed and the right-handers down the beach started working.

It was great to have seven grommets get out (through a very tricky shorebreak) and charge some awesome waves.

Watching those little guys surf a three foot wave is like watching Waimea Bay and they really gave it a good go.

Results: 1st Cannon , 2nd Zack, 3rd Cooper, 4th Jaak, 5th Yani, 6th Kell, 7th Ben.

The juniors were 1st Hamish, 2nd Thomas,

3rd Harry.

The opens were 1st Robert, 2nd Pete, 3rd Hamish and the seniors were 1st Robert, 2nd Neil and 3rd Bill.

We had some dedicated judges help out on the day thanks to Bill and John and a real big thanks to everyone for driving the 10km to compete in what was our first ever comp at this secret spot.

See you at the beach on April 21 for round three.

Editor's note: If someone pays me lots of money I'll reveal the secret surfing spot (joke).
