Searching for young talent to fill us with song.
DO YOU know a young person who is gifted with words and music?
If so, you may want to tell them about the annual Lismore Young Songwriter of the Year competition.
It is about to get rolling with entries for this year's competition closing on March 20, 2016.
Partnership provides the song
A partnership between Northern Rivers Social Development Council (NRSDC) and Headspace and with thanks to grant funding from Lismore City Council, the Young Songwriters Awards is an opportunity for regional young songwriters to showcase their song writing and performance talents with a Finalists performance and awards night being held during Youth Week in April.
"We have seen some incredible talent emerge from this competition." Co-organiser Deb Hall, NRSDC, said.
"This is a great opportunity for young songwriters to showcase their talents and expose their creativity to the world.
"The finalists will be performing their songs at the awards night, as a round up and celebration of their achievements."
Talented Judging panel
"The judging panel is made up of some of our region's most talented singers and songwriters and they'll be looking for originality and musicianship among other things" Co-organiser Tanya Jackson, Headspace, said.
Entries are submitted under the categories of Pop, Folk, Urban/Electronic, Punk/Metal and Rock/Indie with three finalists chosen per category to perform at the awards night in front of the judging panel and a live audience.
The judges award a best male and a best female songwriter of the year and also winners and runners up for each category.
Entrants are in the running for some fantastic prizes which in past years have included studio recording time, professional quality microphones, professional photography and film shoots, and vouchers for music equipment.
Stay tuned for more information about this year's Judging Panel and Prize Pool.
Entry is open to all Northern Rivers residents aged 12 - 25 years.
