Search is on for inspiring women
NOMINATIONS for the NSW Premier's Award for Woman of the Year are now open, with people encouraged to get behind the inspirational women in their lives and nominate them for an award.
This year's Lismore electorate Woman of the Year, Luz Press (pictured), said the award was a great opportunity to encourage people in the community.
"I think it's important to recognise people for what they do in the community," she said.
"There are people who are doing such (wonderful) things without waiting for a reward."
Although Ms Press said she thought it would be "a bit much" to be nominated again, there were a few women she had in mind to nominate herself.
But she said the identity of these women was a secret.
Minister for Women, Pru Goward, said a third category had been added to the awards this year to recognise, for the first time, the achievements of young women.
There are three categories to nominate in, including The NSW Premier's Award for Woman of the Year, which will recognise a woman who has demonstrated excellence in her career, field or passion; an inspirational role model for women in the state; or a significant achiever in a traditionally male dominated field.
Women who are local heroes and volunteers; or quiet achievers who have made an outstanding contribution to their local community can be nominated under the A.H. Beard's Community Hero Award.
Young women aged 18 to 30 who have demonstrated excellence in their career, field or passion, or have made a significant contribution to their community can be nominated for the Harvey Norman's Young Woman of the Year Award.
