Search continues for teenager

THE search continues today for a Kenyan teenager who went missing while swimming at Cabarita Beach yesterday.

Police were contacted when Sam Macharia, 16, a student at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School, failed to return home after going for a run and swim about 2.30pm.

His family had searched the beach and found his backpack with his clothes and mobile phone.

Police, surf life savers, family members and volunteers scoured the beach until the late evening yesterday while water searches were conducted by the Coast Guard and Point Danger Marine Rescue NSW, who patrolled between Hastings Point and Kingscliff.

Police and surf life savers have resumed the search this morning using inflatable rigid boats and jet skis.

The exchange student is described as being of Black African appearance, 165-170cm tall with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.

If you have seen the boy please contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
