Schwarzer out with spinal injury

SOCCEROOS goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has been ruled out of action for up to six weeks after injuring his spine.

The 39-year-old Fulham custodian landed awkwardly on his neck after collecting a cross in the 2-0 loss at Swansea in the English Premier League.

Schwarzer jumped on Twitter to deliver the bad news to his fans.

"I'm devastated to be out for 4-6 weeks,'' Schwarzer wrote.

"After speaking to the specialist, it was very clear I needed a rest."

Schwarzer's injury is a blow for Fulham, with the London club struggling in 14th place on the Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone.
