Lismore PS team off to basketball finals at Bathurst

LISMORE Public School has advanced to the quarter finals of the NSW PSSA Boys Basketball to be decided in Bathurst next week.

Coach Troy Davies said that his team had some memorable wins during the competition.

They beat Byron Bay in the Far North Coast final and went on to record a 106-6 win against Kororo (Coffs Harbour).

"That's a remarkable score; I don't know if that score has been achieved in primary school basketball before," Davies said.

"We have a friendly rivalry with Kororo; they've given us some hard times.

"The win put us into the final eight, only the second time Lismore Public has done that."

Team captain, Zeus Rooke, 11, said that he is confident that that his players will give their best.

"Kororo narrowly beat us last year, so we wanted the win this year," he said.

"We've worked hard on our offensive play; we train well and that's reflected in our games. Byron gave us a good game, but we stepped up and won.

"Some of us play for Lismore Storm, so we know we can rely on each other."

The finals will be played at Bathurst Basketball stadium on Monday.
