School engineers challenge win

CAPE Byron Rudolf Steiner School won the 2011 Northern Rivers Science and Engineering Challenge, an initiative supported by the Australian Government through The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.

Students from Cape Byron and  eight other local schools in the Northern Rivers had to build objects such as an eco-house and hovercraft.

Cape Byron Steiner Class 10 students won $1000 in prize money creating an unbreakable bridge and robot.

The school will now compete in the super zone challenge in September.

“This is a great result for our school and Steiner schools in general,” school principal John O’Brien said.

“Much of the scientific thinking by our students is developed in the “Main Lesson” aspect of our school’s timetable.”
