BUYING that new TV or washing machine has been made easier by a Ballina couple who have created Australia's first energy efficient product comparison website.

Saveenergysavemoney.com.au aims to cut consumers' rising energy bills while working towards creating a greener Australia, said creators Ryan and Julie Moore.

The website lists energy consumption information and running costs for more than 33,000 electrical products from suppliers such as Apple, Samsung and Dell.

Mrs Moore said her husband was inspired to create the website after he was researching air-conditioning units and found it hard to find energy consumption information about different products.

"He found there was no one place he could find the energy information and the price of different products," she said.

"Websites would tell you what the kilowatt consumption was for some products but not what it would cost to run."

Save Energy Save Money gives consumers the ability to beat rising electricity prices by comparing and choosing products based on their annual running costs and environmental impact.

Visitors can browse appliances, including televisions, washing and drying machines and air-conditioners, viewing star ratings and annual running costs for each individual model.

People can also search via a particular appliance's model number, assisting them in the shopping process.

"What's the point of buying a TV that could cost you twice as much a year to run than another that works just as well," Mrs Moore asked.

Launched in October, Mrs Moore said traffic was increasing on the website, which pays the couple based on users clicking through to a supplier's website and ordering a product featured.

Save Energy Save Money also features "green tips" for how to save energy and "live greener".

"The way we see it is, if we can help you save energy and save money, we are all making a difference for a more sustainable future (and wallet)," she said.
