Sandow walks out on Super League club

RUGBY LEAGUE: Controversial former Parramatta and South Sydney halfback Chris Sandow has walked out on English Super League club Warrington with a year left on his contract.

The 27-year-old, who was in the Wolves team that lost the Challenge Cup final and Super League grand final this year, failed to turn up for the start of pre-season training on Monday.

Sandow, whose agent told the club he would not return to the club, is believed to be back in Australia training for a charity fight night next month.

He is scheduled to fight fellow bad boy Todd Carney at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on December 9.

The headline bout is Cronulla's New South Wales Origin captain Paul Gallen against Canberra Raiders giant Junior Paulo.

Warrington could block any possible return to the NRL for Sandow after his early exit.

Karl Fitzpatrick, who will take over as Warrington's chief executive in January, said: "Chris is contracted until the end of 2017 and should have reported for pre-season training today. This is a clear breach of contract.

"We will be retaining his registration until further notice. We, the club, are disappointed that Chris has decided not to return.”

Sandow, who spent four years with South Sydney from 2008-11 before moving to Parramatta, resurrected his career with Warrington in 2016 after leaving the Eels midway through a troubled 2015 NRL season in somewhat similar circumstances.

The playmaker made 31 appearances for the Wolves, scoring 12 tries, 26 goals and one field goal.
