Sam's Stargazer born from living a dream

SAMANTHA Connew is chairwoman of the Royal Sydney Wine Show, wine-making consultant to some successful wineries and a respected voice for gender equality in the industry.

She has also fulfilled a dream of moving to Tasmania, buying her own vineyard and making her own wines, Stargazer. Her wines are for people who look up and follow their own star, just like Sam.

Riesling, 2016

Single vineyard, Coal River Valley. Jumping with green apple, fresh pine mulch, lychees and deep lemon citrus. A delicious contrast to other searing young rieslings. Crunchy, talc-driven palate. Rating: 9/10 RRP: $35 Alc: 12%

Tupelo, 2016

Tamar and Derwent valleys. A blend of pinot gris, riesling and gewürztraminer. White flower blossom aromas alongside sweet quince paste, coriander and Turkish delight. This leaves an impression and intrigue. Rating: 8.5/10 RRP: $30 Alc: 13%

Chardonnay, 2015

Single vineyard, Coal River Valley. Deep, voluptuous smells of creamy, nutty white nougat and whipped salted butter. Fruit is evident with ripe peach and citrus pith. Robust (but not dominant) oak brings spice over long peach stone fruit before a dazzling acid structure conclusion. Rating: 9/10 RRP: $45 Alc: 12.5%
