Sam Smith’s shock gender revelation

AFTER taking a few years out of the spotlight to regroup, British singer Sam Smith is back - and more candid than ever.

The 25-year-old has opened up about his sexuality and gender identity in a new interview.

"I don't know what the title would be, but I feel just as much a woman as I am man," Smith said in an interview with The Sunday Times, before revealing two Venus symbol tattoos.

He also shared that he loves high heels, telling the newspaper, "I love a heel. I've got loads of heels at home."

The Stay with Me singer says that as a teenager, he dressed as his idols, Boy George and Marilyn Monroe.

"People don't know this, but when I was 17, I remember becoming obsessed with Boy George and Marilyn [Monroe], and all that," he quipped.

"There was a moment in my life where I didn't own a piece of male clothing, really. I would wear full make-up every day in school, eyelashes, leggings with Dr Martens and huge fur coats, for 2.5 years."

Smith's latest album, The Thrill of It All, drops on November 3 and the singer thinks his new tracks encompass his "growth" and "confidence."

"I feel like they show me. They show the gay guy I've become," he said.
