Saleyard prices down at Lismore

THERE were 240 cattle sold at Lismore Saleyards on Tuesday

All the usual buyers were present but vealers prices were 4c/kg down on last week. The top milk/grain fed vealers weighing between 180 and 240 kg topped at $2.09/kg with most selling from $1.98 to $2.08/kg for returns of $375 to $482.

Bobby calves sold well topping at 2.44/kg and returning $291.

There was only a handful of weaner steers suitable for western orders and these sold from $2.05 to $2.20/kg.

Plain vealers generally sold in the $1.75 to $1.95/kg range.

Grown cattle sold on a par with last week, topping at $1.37/kg for $830. Most selling from 90c/kg to $1.30/kg.

Prices dropped at most saleyards throughout the country this week and despite the good rain on the coast getting the grass season underway graziers in the western areas are looking for a drop or two.

The wheat harvesters aren't so lucky as we can't control the weather.
