Sale sounds starting bell for Evans airpark

A 70-lot residential airpark, 14 commercial hangars and light industrial lots for aviation-related businesses are set to be constructed at Evans Head Aerodrome following today's sale of the site by Richmond Valley Council.

This morning Richmond Valley Council General Manager John Walker signed the contract of sale along with Evans Head Airpark consortium member Peter Lynch.

Mr Walker said the Evans Head Airpark proposal was seen by council as a project which would act as an economic and social stimulus not only for Evans Head, but for the entire Richmond Valley.

He said the sale would also ensure the future sustainability of the heritage features of the Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome.

"Peter Lynch is a passionate aviator and is keen to make sure the heritage of the site is not lost," he said.

Mr Walker said the sale would also reinvigorate plans for a major retirement village at Evans Head.

He said the much-needed retirement village would allow residents the opportunity to stay in their own community if their lifestyle needs changed, or their health reached a stage where they needed such care.
