Saffin and Elliot vow to cross floor over CSG
FEDERAL member for Richmond Justine Elliot and member for Page Jan- elle Saffin said they would cross the floor and vote against their own party on the issue of coal seam gas, if necessary.
"Look that's absolutely accurate, I'll always stand with the community," Ms Elliot said.
"Janelle Saffin and I have made our views very clear and we don't want CSG on the North Coast."
Ms Saffin said while it wasn't party policy to cross the floor, if a situation arose where she held the power to decide she would stand with her community in the face of pro-CSG legislation.
"I said it on ABC radio the other day that yes I would [cross the floor] if I am the deciding vote," Ms Saffin said. "It's not [Labor] policy to do that but it is an action that you do for the community."
These statements come amidst claims from Nationals candidate for Richmond Matthew Fraser that there are no commercially viable CSG sites in the Richmond. "It's been very well documented that there are no commercially viable deposits of CSG in the electorate of Richmond," Mr Fraser said.
