Runners hit their stride
THE Zone Primary Schools Sports Association cross country was held at Corndale recently.
Athletes and their cheer squads representing about 20 primary schools from Maclean west to Drake and Bonalbo, including the Lismore area, converged on a property next to Corndale Public School.
Kyogle's Rocco Partridge, 12, said he was using the day to try for regionals and catch up with friends.
"Some of Kyogle Public's runners have made it through to the North Coast regionals at Kempsey in June, which is good," Rocco said.
Modanville's Tamika McIntosh was happy with her first place "bling" and is also headed to Kempsey.
Lismore Heights runners Tyreece Creighton and Kynan Davis were elated at their performances in the athletes with disability division of the 11 years boys 3km run, coming first and third respectively.
Meanwhile, Kyogle Public School's senior rugby league team has made the NSWPSSA Rugby League Classic Knockout to be played in Sydney in July.
The school had senior and junior teams compete at the All Schools Rugby League Gala Day at Casino last month.
Principal Drew Green said both teams made the grand final on that day.
"But unfortunately our junior team came out with a draw," he said.
"With the other side scoring the first try, our team was eliminated."
"Our seniors won reasonably convincingly and Jacob O'Reilly was named as the best and fairest on the day."
Ronnie Daniels was the juniors' best and fairest.
