Run funds Nimbin gym
THEY'RE off and racing for the fourth annual Nimbin Fun Run.
The event is on Sunday and is a fundraiser for Nimbin's Physical Activity Centre at the showgrounds and an opportunity to promote physical fitness.
The centre was established by Lismore Council and over the past three years the fun run has generated enough funds to buy three treadmills, two exercise bikes, one cross-trainer, boxing equipment and weight sets as well as financing annual repairs and maintenance.
Event co-ordinator Cassandra Jefferys said as the amount of equipment at the centre had grown, so had participation rates.
She said as well as having a functioning community gym, the centre was also used for yoga, Zumba, group fitness classes and the Move2Change program, which is for people with a chronic health condition.
Sunday's fun run is all about participation and there are races and categories for all ages from tiny tots (three and under) to over-45s.
The main event is a 5km walk or run around the showgrounds and through town with loads of prizes, including one for best dressed entrant.
There are plenty of market stalls and kids' activities, and parents will be able to leave their kids while they do their run.
Ms Jefferys said they had 68 participants last year and were hoping good weather would increase that number this year.
Participants need to register at the showgrounds on Sunday before 1pm.
