Super Rugby champion Chiefs struggle with continuity

RUGBY: Continuity in selection has been a key factor missing for the two-time defending Super Rugby champion Chiefs this campaign and that problem will only continue this week.

The Chiefs' slim hopes of claiming a third straight Super Rugby title hinge on Friday night's clash with the Hurricanes in Hamilton.

Only Aaron Cruden has retained his jersey from the damaging defeat to the Highlanders, with coach Dave Rennie ringing the changes in the backline.

Clearly unhappy with the efforts of his attack, Rennie has picked two players who made an impact off the bench in Dunedin, with Tim Nanai-Williams replacing Robbie Fruean at centre and Tawera Kerr-Barlow taking the No 9 jersey from Augustine Pulu.

Asaeli Tikoirotuma and James Lowe come on to the wing, leaving Tom Marshall to shift to fullback and Dwayne Sweeney to miss out altogether, while Charlie Ngatai replaces Bundee Aki at second five.
