Rovers team effort pays off

A TEAM effort from Richmond Rovers soccer club has Bill Harris Field in its best shape in years and ready to be re-opened by Lismore Mayor Jenny Dowell this afternoon.

The playing surface received two failed overhauls after the 2008 and 2009 seasons, but has since had $10,000 and a whole lot of love poured into one last effort.

It now looks a million dollars.

Club members, players and officials, came together to lay the 7500 square metres of A-grade wintergreen couch over three week days and nights in March – and the response left club president Matthew McNamara beaming.

“We were blown away by the turn-out,” McNamara said.

“Can’t thank them enough for the help; without it the committee might still be out there finishing the job.”

The formal opening is at 4.30 today before Rovers take on Workers in the Far North Coast premier division.
