Rovers jump to second spot in soccer comp with 2-0 win

DEFENDING major premiers Richmond Rovers have jumped to second place on the Far North Coast premier league soccer ladder with a 2-0 home win over a depleted Alstonville on Tuesday night.

Villa were backing up after their FFA Cup clash three days earlier and with six players missing they could not contain Rovers.

Goals to Jake Heffernan and coach Bobby Bugden gave Rovers a comfortable win, with strong performances from Reid Brewer-Charles in midfield, Bugden on the flank and wide defender Shane Smith in just his second start.

Rovers are now three points behind undefeated league leader Byron Bay and should keep the pressure on the Rams with a win over Bangalow on Saturday.

Byron Bay has a double-header coming up, playing Goonellabah on Saturday and Lismore Workers on Sunday.
