"Rockhampton Rocket" Rod Davies set for Tokyo launch

FORMER Reds and Wallabies star Rod Davies is set to link up with Japanese Division II club the Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars at the end of this month.

Australian Regional Media can reveal the "Rockhampton Rocket" and 2011 Super Rugby championship-winner has signed a lucrative two-year deal with the Tokyo club.

Davies is in his final couple of weeks playing as a fullback/winger for Biarritz in France's Division II competition.

It is a well-deserved stroke of fortune for the well-liked 26-year-old, who has had two knee reconstructions, a shattered shoulder, broken cheek bone and a history of hamstring problems.

Those injuries contributed to him playing just one Test for the Wallabies.

"Injuries have been a big part of my career, but I've been lucky to have had no injuries over the past two years and play 50 games at Biarritz," Davies said from from French west coast.

The fast-stepping Davies still feels blessed to be living his rugby dream after overcoming so many setbacks, and is now on the verge of another adventure in Japan.

"I've gone from playing as a junior in Rockhampton to living in two diverse cultures so I'm very fortunate," he said.
