Roar players fighting fit for busy schedule

FOOTBALL: Midfielder Tommy Oar says the Brisbane Roar won't be overawed by its busy schedule and will take it one game at a time.

The Roar will play three matches in six days at Suncorp Stadium, starting with Saturday night's A-League clash with Western Sydney, followed by a Asian Champions League playoff next Tuesday and a meeting with Sydney FC on the Friday.

Filipino club Global FC and Singapore's Tampines Rovers are playing on Tuesday night to decide the Roar's Champions League opponent.

"For us, the focus is purely on this weekend first - one game at a time. After that, we'll shift our focus,” Oar said.

"It's important not to get too far ahead of ourselves. We go into every game very prepared and (the coaches) give us all the information we need to know. I'm sure that game will be no different.”

Oar said while Roar officials had been concerned with player fatigue, he and his teammates would cope, particularly as the side looks to hold fast in the top four of the domestic competition.

"The way we train, the heat here and the intensity that we train at, most of the boys say this is the fittest they've ever been,” he said.

Brett Holman, meanwhile, will make a welcome return this weekend after eight weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.

"Obviously Brett's quality. Everyone knows what he brings to the table, he's got a lot of experience and with a busy period coming up, it's fantastic to have players like him coming back in,” Oar said.
