Road spikes deployed in police pursuit

POLICE deployed road spikes to stop a car on Saturday night at Bonalbo after it had twice evaded police during pursuits at Woodenbong and Bonalbo.

Officers first spotted the blue Mazda sedan at 10pm after they allegedly saw two cars speeding on the Mount Lindesay Hwy and tried to pull them over.

After they failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated along the Bruxner Hwy but terminated shortly after for safety reasons.

The Mazda continued onto Boomi Creek Rd, nearly colliding with another police vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Police then chased the Mazda for 8km along the Bonalbo-Urbenville Road before road spikes were deployed causing the vehicle to stop.

The 18-year-old driver and his male passenger tried to flee on foot but were arrested by police.

The driver was charged with multiple driving offences including dangerous driving and being an unlicensed driver.

He was granted conditional bail to reappear at Casino Local court on September 5.
