Road racers feeling the heat

ABOUT 40 riders pushed through sweltering heat in the final round of the Short Course Australia Road Race Series at the Lismore Showground on the weekend.

It was the final Lismore meeting of the year for the North Coast Road Racers.

Damian Coppola continued his dominance taking out the Division 1 motolites.

The win should see him finish the season first overall once points have been calculated.

Club president Jimmy Britton finished second in Division 2 motolites while Justin Hall was strong across a couple of divisions.

It has been another big year for the road racers with the club continuing to build on its junior base.

"The heat really cooked us on Saturday but it was a good turnout," Britton said.

"Our junior numbers increased and it's been a big success.

"They come from Brisbane, Newcastle and Sydney and they're always stoked about the amount of track time they get.

"Its good practice for them between bigger events during the year.

"We had a few rule changes at the start of the year and a lot of us have improved this season."

There is one more event at Grafton next month.
