U-TURN FAIL: The driver of a B-double was caught in a sticky situation on the Old Pacific Highway at Glenugie.

Road closed due to truck stuck in muck

STUCK in the mud should be a game for children, not trucks.

But a failed U-turn attempt by the driver of a B-double on the Old Pacific Hwy at Glenugie Thursday morning left his vehicle well and truly bogged, blocking traffic in both directions.

The incident happened about 7.22am yesterday, and access to the road was cut off for more than two hours while towing services worked to get it moving again.

It is understood the first attempt to remove the vehicle from its sticky situation was unsuccessful and a specialised heavy towing vehicle had to be brought in to finish the job.

Police remained on scene until the tow truck arrived.

The driver, who did not wish to be identified, said he simply "stuffed up".

"I changed the settings on the GPS from a single trailer to a double and it took me down here," he said. "I tried to do the right thing in turning around (away from the highway exit)."
