Rising Roar star urged to be patient

VETERAN Brisbane defender Jade North has urged former Australian under-17 captain Joe Caletti to be patient in his quest to play A-League football.

Considered one of the country's most talented young midfielders, Caletti is yet to taste A-League action despite having joined the Roar last January.

The diminutive 18-year-old got an AFC Champions League preliminary playoff opportunity last week, impressing off the bench in the Roar's 6-0 thrashing of Filipino outfit Global FC at Suncorp Stadium.

Caletti's performance ensured he was in the Roar squad for Wednesday's Champions League playoff against Shanghai Shenhua in China.

"I'm looking at having more chances to play," said Caletti, whose Brisbane contract expires at the end of the season.

"I'm trying to prove myself on the training paddock and get more game time."

North is a big fan of Caletti and hopes the Roar offers him a new deal.

"I think he's a special little player," said North, who added that Caletti should not get frustrated waiting for regular first-team football.

"We've always had a good side here at the Roar, and I remember from when I was young at the Brisbane Strikers in the NSL that you have to wait for your chance."

North, 35, will miss a Roar A-League game this weekend for the first time since April 2015, with suspension ruling him out of Brisbane's clash with Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Saturday night.
