Jack wins World Motocross Champs

IT WOULD be safe to say that Jack Field is Rosebank's first-ever world champion.

Field claimed that accolade this week when he won the first-ever World Freestyle Trials Motocross Championship at Lyon, in southern France, ranking him number one on the international freestyle scene.

The 23-year-old has spent the last week competing against the top eight motocross riders in the world at Lyon's Gorcia Park circuit.

Freestyle trials is a relatively new sport that combines freestyle motocross and BMX using trials motorbikes, with competitors judged on their tricks, style and skill.

Since the age of four, Field has shown an interest in the sport that would eventually see him ranked number one in the world.

“I started riding motorbikes at age four and competed in trials competitions aged from seven to 16,” he said.

“In Year 12 I got called up to go overseas to ride and it sort of went from there.”

After competing overseas at the age of 18, Field ret-urned home and began his own business, Aus Freestyle Pty Ltd, which organisesdemonstration riding.

“I came back home and started up my own business,” he said.

“I've been riding professionally for the last five years. We've had plenty of shows on, just about every weekend.”

Before his launch on to the international trials scene, Field was a student at Rosebank Primary School and later attended Lismore High.

When he's not travelling for work or competitions, Field enjoys returning home and catching up with friends and family.

“The fact that I get to travel the world and get paid for it, I couldn't ask for much more,” he said. “Like everyone says, if you do something you love, it's not really work is it?

“I just want to keep on riding and travelling and having fun.”

In a sport that typically yields high injury rates, Field has managed to survive relatively unscathed, with theexception of a few bruises and scratches.

Field's victory in France is all the more spectacular as he had not competed in any events for five years.

Field will be performing as part of the freestyle trial team at the 2010 4WD Caravan Camping and Marine Show at the Lismore Showground next weekend.
