Riders buck up for devil of a night at Byron

THE National Rodeo Championship kicks off in Byron Bay tonight at Red Devil Park with the cream of Australia’s saddlebronk, barrel and bullriders lining up for $3500 in prizemoney and valuable points towards the national title.

Organiser Carol Bostock said the two-and-a-half-hour show was an action-packed event loved by locals, kids and tourists alike.

“We’ve been coming to Byron for over a decade now and the crowds love it,” she said.

“So come along and make some noise because the boys ride better and the bulls buck better if they can hear the crowd.”

As well as the rodeo events there are plenty of comedy acts between the rides and live music at the Red Devil club afterwards if people want to party on at the bar.

The rodeo is family friendly and food is available on-site. Tickets are $20 for adults and $45 for families. Gates open at 6pm for a 7.30pm start. Phone 0417 401 609.
