Richmond Valley Council on the move to Evans Head

RICHMOND Valley councillors will head to Evans Head for two council meetings next year, after a five-to-four vote to allow the council to leave its Casino headquarters.

The motion was moved by Cr Donella Kinnish, who said the gesture would 'show the council was doing something to heal the rift between the two council areas'.

Cr Shirley Wheatley said the last time Richmond Valley Council held meetings in Evans Head they 'weren't rushed to by the public'.

“I don't think it's going to do a lot,” she said.

Evans Head and District Ratepayers' Association President Dr Richard Gates was glad some meetings were moving to Evans Head, however, he said more economically viable and effective options could have been discussed.

“Video conferencing would give residents from all areas the chance to watch meetings,” he said.
