Original Report: RACERS, it's almost time to start your engines - the Northern Rivers Drag Racing Association (NRDRA) will start meeting soon.

To promote the NRDRA's new committee and the Fuchs Winternationals next week the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) held a display at Masters Lismore on Tuesday, featuring local cars that will hit the drag strip.

NRDRA spokeswoman Sue Corbett said the new committee, with the support of ANDRA, was keen to promote the sport.

"We are doing our best to get a meeting up and running as soon as possible," she said.

"Richmond Valley Council has been very supportive. They want to see drag racing continue at Casino.

"Plus it gives people a safe, legal venue to race at, which the police are supportive of."

Mrs Corbett said NRDRA was always looking for volunteers to help run drag meetings.

"Anyone interested in volunteering can visit our Facebook page and post their details," she said.

ANDRA business development manager Jennifer Harrison said the organisation had travelled from Adelaide for the Fuchs Winternationals.

"For ANDRA its exciting to see the expansion of drag racing throughout Australia and to see a club like here on the Northern Rivers be so proactive in promoting the sport," she said.

Ms Harrison said the Fuchs Winternationals, from Thursday to Sunday at Queensland's Willowbank Raceway, was the biggest drag racing meeting anywhere outside the USA.

"The Winternationals will feature more than 500 entries across 18 classes," she said.
