Returned Labor government would help fund new men’s shed

MEMBERS of the Ballina Men's Shed have been hard at work fundraising for their new building on council-owned land in Fishery Creek Rd.

They have outgrown their shed at Southern Cross K-12 School, and plans for a new facility have already been approved.

If Labor wins government on the weekend, the organisation will be able to add $250,000 to their coffers.

Page MP Janelle Saffin and Deputy Prime Minister and deputy Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the project would be funded under the Liveable Communities program.

"I am a great supporter of the Men's Shed movement and this is the kind of project that can provide real health and well-being benefits, and promote social inclusion in the local community," Ms Saffin said.

"Ballina Shire Council has shown great support for the project, agreeing to lease a council property in West Ballina, waive development charges and grant development consent for a 40m x 20m shed to be built."
