Restructure behind success

WITH 300 employees from Sydney to Tweed Heads and as far west as Narrabri, newly crowned Lismore Business of the Year, Multitask Human Resources Foundation, is not your average organisation.

Multitask was awarded the top honour at The Northern Star Lismore Business Excellence Awards on Saturday night.

Chief executive for the past five years Graham Mapstone was "absolutely chuffed" with the win.

Mr Mapstone has overseen a major restructure of the disability services organisation.

"We've downsized upper management numbers, cutting our corporate overhead costs, and built a stronger middle management structure closer to people on the ground," Mr Mapstone said. "We probably cover the broadest range in disability services on the North Coast."

Mr Mapstone has a very personal link to disability services. His brother has a disability and been a client of the company for 43 years.

"Whoever comes through the door, we look to support and help them achieve their goals and dreams," he said.

"Our vision is to be strong community business providing opportunities to all."

Last year the company purchased a block of units in East Lismore to provide accommodation for people with disabilities who struggle for tenure, adding to another adjoining block of land adjoining where they are planning to build.

Ultimately the entire complex will accommodate 25-30 people.

Lismore Chamber of Commerce chairman David Martin said Multitask's growth over the past two years was a testament to the work the company was doing for people with disabilities.

He said the awards night was a stunning success, with more than 300 people turning out - the biggest attendance in the event's history.

"We had the largest number of nominations and wid

est spread of nominations this year," Mr Martin said.

"We were absolutely blown away with the support the People's Choice award, with over 100 nominations."

"Each category winner was incredibly well-deserved.

"The competition is getting closer and closer each year. It's about coming together as a business community and saying we want to do better together."
