Restockers back and busy at Casino’s weekly cattle sale

THERE were 1043 cattle yarded at Casino’s weekly sale on Wednesday.

More than 800 head of young cattle were yarded, consisting of a large percentage of medium weight vealers, a fair number of light veal, and a few more yearlings, while cows dominated the grown cattle section.

Quality was good with several runs of well-finished milk veal through the sale.

Restockers were active in the market, keen to acquire well-bred steers and heifers.

Competition was strong with most vealers selling firm to 4c/kg dearer.

Restocker vealer steers toped at 368c and heifers at 317c/kg.

Trade yearlings sold to 310c and restocker yearling steers to 337c/kg.

The yarding of cows was mainly medium weights and a few pens of heavy cows.

The market improved by up to 20c/kg. Medium weight cows averaged 224c and heavy cows sold to 239c/kg.
