Resources body releases plan to boost production to $100b
THE peak body for gas in Queensland wants the resources sector to triple in value in the next three decades - a plan which would see production skyrocket to $100billion.
Releasing its 30-year vision ahead of the State Government's Queensland Plan release this week, the Queensland Resources Council also highlighted more high-skilled jobs as a goal.
QRC chief executive Michael Roche said the plan had utilised community feedback on the Queensland Plan, which included calls to reduce the environmental impact of the industry.
"The vision ... shows how we can help meet the world's growing demand for minerals and energy, while being responsible stewards of land and water and minimising our energy inputs," he said.
He also stressed how the sector could help regional Queensland, highlighting jobs and infrastructure delivery by industry.
He said the sector was responsible, directly and indirectly, for one in four dollars of the state's economy and one in five jobs.
QRC will participate in the Queensland Plan summit on Wednesday and Thursday, and Mr Roche said the expansion of the sector would rely on getting government policy right.
