Resorting to the natural elements in Byron Bay
WITH its 'nature first' approach to its development, the new resort Elements of Byron will be opening on February 1.
The fifty acre property encompasses two kilometres of absolute beach frontage on Belongil Beach in Byron Bay.
With creek, lake, ponds, 13 acres of littoral rainforest and abundant wildlife, the owners say the site has been lovingly tended throughout the development phase.
To ensure that landscape (as opposed to built form) was the dominant experience, a 10% footprint was adopted for the $100 million 'slow architecture' resort.
"We are taking the ecology back to endemic species because they are so beautiful" said Elements of Byron owner Peggy Flannery.
We are working with local artists to create pieces for the different spaces. Byron Bay is so wealthy in terms of creativity.
"We are working with local farmers to close the gap between their farm and our plates. We're not creating something separate to Byron, we are trying to complement what is already here, to celebrate it."
The 94 villas (a further 96 will be built in Stage 2) were meticulously sited amidst mature native trees, which weave in middle-earth like fashion up walls and over corrugated iron rooves.
Elements of Byron has drawn a talented team of local and international Chefs to deliver their unique range of dining experiences.
Led by Executive Chef Justin Dingle-Garciyya, the culinary team is creating fiercely seasonal modern regional cuisine with a strong wellness focus.
"I don't follow food trends," he said, having left his role as Culinary Director of Morgans Hotel Group to join the resort.
"I try to keep it as honest as possible. In this day and age food for me is about an ayurvedic way of living".
Elements of Byron is well equipped to host the country's most prestigious events, with state of the art facilities throughout their dedicated conference wing.
Catering for 450 delegates, the four versatile function spaces are supported by adjacent break-out garden courtyards, pool and lagoon side spaces and beachfront locations offering views across the Bay to Cape Byron Lighthouse.
The experience is authentic barefoot Byron Bay.
