Residents advised to keep out of floods

IT'S been a night of wild weather on the Northern Rivers, but the Tweed Shire has escaped relatively unscathed so far.

Of the 103 callouts for the Richmond-Tweed SES only one was for the Tweed and it involved a tree-down on Hogans Rd.

The majority of the reported incidents were in Ballina and Lismore.

Tweed Coast SES unit controller Christine McDonald said when the wet weather started on the weekend there were a handful of Tweed call-outs involving leaking roofs.

A severe weather warning has been released by the Bureau of Metereology for this morning telling of potentially dangerous winds along coastal areas from the Gold Coast to Gympie.

According to the alert released at 5.07am, "damaging winds" of up to 90kmh were expected to develop in the early hours of today.

The threat is due to ease after lunch.

The State Emergency Service advises people to stay out of flood water and to not attempt to cross flooded causeways.

Tweed Shire rainfall over the last 24 hours:

Hastings Point 41mm
Uki 38mm
Burringbar 36 mm
Clarrie Hall Dam 36mm
Kingscliff 27 mm
