Remembrance Day across the generations in Byron Bay
AS cars, buses, bikes and skateboards continued to whizz up and down Jonson Street, a group of around 80 people paused for a minutes silence at the Remembrance Day commemoration outside Byron Bay Sevices Club.
Master of Ceremonies, RSL Sb-Branch president Robert Asquith led the commemoration service with pupils from Byron bay High School, Byron Bay Primary School, St Finbars Catholic School and Byron Community School making moving speeches about what Remembrance Day meant to them.
World War Two veteran John Roach, who served in Bougainville, New Guinea, posed for photos at the Centotaph with all the school pupils gathered around him after the ceremony.
"It means everything to me just to see all the kids here," he said.
"They are the main ones, you have to look after them."
