Rejuvenating ideas for Kyogle township

THE meeting about project development in the Kyogle LGA and surrounds created stimulating discussions at the Kyogle Cinema.

The Kyogle Community Economic Development Committee organised the screening of two ABC Backroads films about the towns of Yackandandah and Birchip as inspiration.

Yackandandah, in Victoria, lost its servo and the community bought it back. In Birchip, in South Australia, the residents decided to build a bull to attract tourists and now people travel there to take a selfie.

Graeme Gibson is new to the area, having moved to Kyogle with his partner in January.

“It was interesting to hear from people who have lived here for a long period of time,” Mr Gibson said.

The group discussed possible community projects including train frequencies and Kyogle main street rejuvenation.
