Refrigerator fire leads to recall

Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin is urging consumers to check their refrigerators following the voluntary national recall of certain models of the LG side-by-side refrigerator, after two cases of fire were reported.

Mr Griffin said a fault was detected which causes the micro-switch in the appliance’s ice-maker to deteriorate.

“The affected models were sold Australia-wide through all major whitegoods retailers between January 2002 and December 2005,” he said.

“NSW Fair Trading has been advised that 39,067 appliances have been sold nationally. No separate sales figures for individual states and territories have been released.”

Customers can visit www.lg.com.au/recall for details of the affected serial numbers.

Affected customers are asked to contact the LG customer information line on 1800 506 154, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, and quote their model and serial number to arrange for a service technician to replace the micro-switch.
