Record for Rumble at Casino track
THE well-performed Mystic Rumble kept her unbeaten sprint form at Casino in tact with a record-breaking run in the Vesuvio at Stud Christmas Gift heats during the TAB greyhound racing meeting at Queen Elizabeth Park, Casino, last Friday.
The Steve Kavanagh-trained galloper went straight to the front and powered away in the middle of the race to run 22.73s.
That took 0.03s off Within Site’s previous record.
She clocked only an ‘average’ 8.68s to the mark, but the strength of her win was shown when she ran home in a veryfast 14.05s.
On a real ‘speed’ track, the second fastest heat winner Karanne Star equalled the old record with an all-the-way victory.
The in-form sprinter, now with Brian and Beryl Stephens, carved out a first sectional of 8.53s, before going on to win by the race 4-1/2 lengths.
Next best time went to the ultra-consistent Rapid Puzzle, which clocked 22.94s for the Northfield clan.
Wicked Twist came home stoutly to run 23.06s for Peter Simpson, while Within Radar used his rails draw to perfection to stop the clock at 23.28s.
The other heat went to Farmer’s Image, which was never headed in a 23.33s win. Janice McLean trains him locally.
Three heats of the Christmas Maiden also featured and Brad Northfield produced another smart one in Bralyn Shorty, which set the time standard of 23.06s.
He dwelt slightly at the start, but had enough pace to hold out Light Of Trey in the run to the first bend. He kicked clear at this point, then went on to win by 3-3/4 lengths.
Jim Robinson’s dogs race well at Casino and he led in the second maiden heat winner in Problem Prince. He also led from the first bend to run 23.42s.
Mr Snake Eyes rounded out the heats with a 23.31s win.
The Neil Falls trained dog kept close to the fence in leading most of the way, and won by 7-3/4 lengths.
Yorklea Valley kept up his winning form, making it a hat-trick of Free-For-All wins for Tony Marras.
Again he had to do it the hard away after blowing the start, but came with a scintillating run on the home bend to race away and score by 1-1/2 lengths. He ran 23.02s.
Tom Tzouvelis took the training honours with a winning double. Write Off Bart was well supported from his rails draw, and just kept coming to win the Westlawn Finance Stake in 27.95s, while California Blue held on in a blanket finish to take out the Rapidvite Distance race.
The two sprint finals, involving some speedy customers, will highlight the TAB card this Friday in what will be the Casino club’s last meeting of the year.
