RECALL: These gas cooker units could explode, warns ACCC

OWNERS of a certain Bosch freestanding gas/electric cooker are at risk of being caught in an explosion due to potential gas leaks, Product Safety Australia has warned.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) branch issued a recall notice yesterday for the Bosch Freestanding Gas/Electric Cooker 60cm, manufactured between January, 2009 and October, 2011.

BSH Home Appliances has said an explosion would be "extremely rare" and it is doing all it can to contact customers.

The cookers were sold in specialist retailers across Australia between September 1, 2010 and December 31, 2012. Approximately 600 of the units are affected.

The recall warns an "adaptor between the cooker's gas supply and the appliance may crack causing a potential gas leak" and that "leaking gas may cause an explosion".

Any customer with this model of cooker should immediately check the appliance rating plate (found on the right side of the oven door when open, or in its accessory drawer) for the model number and batch number, the recall states.

Armed with that information, customers can visit gascookingsafety.com to see if the model is susceptible to the gas leak.

If the model is affected or if there is any uncertainty immediately shut off the gas supply to the appliance.

Visit gascookingsafety.com or call 1300 955 742 (Monday to Friday) to schedule a repair.
