STUDENTS from Leeville Public School and St Mary's Primary School are already in training for the second RunNSW Greater Casino Fun Run.

Leeville's principal Annette Clarke said at least 15 of the school's 50 students would compete this year.

"It is our premier sporting challenge and we will have a team in the 5km run," she said.

Year 6 student Piper Moloney was keen, as were her friends Natalie Nicholson, 12, and Daisy Norris, 9.

"I did it last year and it was fun running in a team," Piper said.

From St Mary's, teacher Sam Irvine said he expected up to 30 students to enter.

"That's about the same as we had last year," he said.

"Those kids who do our running club will be going in it."

Funds raised from the day will benefit the local Little Athletics Club in Casino.

"It's really cool to be doing (the run) again," club president/secretary Peta Moloney said.

"Now it's in winter we are hoping to get entries from people further away."

Last year the run was held in spring when it clashed with a number of events on the Northern Rivers.

Organised by RunNSW, the fun run will be held on Sunday, with the choice of 10km, 5km or 2km runs.

Registrations can be done online at http://www.runnsw.com.au/event/casino-fun-run until 5pm tomorrow.

The event sponsor, Greater Building Society, will take late entries at its Casino branch on Saturday morning and also on race day from 6.30am at QEII Park.
