Readers voted on worst intersections on the Northern Rivers

THE CONDITION of Northern Rivers roads is a common complaint of residents and now the verdict is in on the worst intersection in the region.

Readers voiced their opinions on the Northern Star's Facebook page to the question which do you think is our region's scariest/most frustrating/most dangerous intersection?

As an example to kick things off, the paper nominated the scene of many crashes - intersection of Cowlong Rd, the Bruxner Highway, and Alphadale Rd at Alphadale.

Followers of the Northern Star's Facebook page agreed, with at least 12 people nominating the Alphadale crossroads as a death trap.

Belinda Cordery posted 'Alphadale Road, definitely so dangerous!'

Kerry Whitney highlighted the number of serious crashes at the intersection.

"Definitely Alphadale cross roads.... how many lives have to be taken before something get done to fix the busy and dangerous intersection," she posted.

Craig Soward remembers when the speed limit was higher through the intersection.

"Geez if you people think Alphadale intersection is bad now I grew up out there," he posted.

"It was 100k speed limit with no turning lanes, a quarter of the width and obscured by trees."

Other notable intersections mentioned include either end of Coolamon Scenic Dr.
Both Nadine Wyrsch and Rhani Stratford nominated Cowlong Rd, while Caitlin Turnbull mentioned the dangers of Coolamon Scenic Dr.

"The intersection where Coorabell Road meets Coolamon Scenic Drive near Mullum," she wrote.

"So dangerous, especially when wet and if you're driving it for the first time."

Other road dangers

While on the topic of roads, Mel James mentioned a problem for all drivers - potholes.

"Its not just intersections," she posted.

"Pot holes are the devil."
