Readers farewell Lismore mayor for all her achievements

REACTION to Jenny Dowell’s departure from the mayoral position has been met overall with positive comments on The Northern Star facebook page.

No politician will ever have the love of all the people, but some can often come close.

“Farewell Mayor Jenny Dowell and congratulations on your stellar achievements, most especially running a sustainable, fit for the future council region and your widespread community engagement,” Katherine Moyes wrote.

“May you and Ron dance through retirement.”

“In the whole 30 years I've lived in Lismore I've never seen such an active and amazing mayor as Jenny,” Anna Mason posted.

“Thanks for everything you've done, you will be missed. I hope the right person gets voted in and we don't end up with someone who will send us backwards.”

“Oh Jenny, you will be missed so much, your lovely smile. Will miss your "what's on" on fb,” Deanne Foster wrote.

“Your energy has been unwavering, always where possible attending events. You are always so gracious.”

Not everyone who commented was sad to see Cr Dowell leave office.

“Would be the best thing to happen to Lismore,” Brendan Newell wrote.

Michael Behan wasn’t happy with what he saw as a waste of ratepayer monies on artistic ‘eyesores’ and degraded roads.

Others were pleased with Cr Dowell’s performance as mayor even if they didn’t agree with all her decisions.

“I must say you were a great mayor Jenny but I still think your stand on fluoridation was very wrong,” Andre Othenin-girard posted.

Either way, changes are underway at Lismore council when the September elections take place.
