Reaction to Bentley farmer saying region is "missing out"
READERS of The Northern Star online have responded to Peter Graham's statement that the "Northern Rivers has lost out big time" following news the NSW Government will buy back the three Metgasco Petroleum Exploration Licenses in the region.
Codrington dairy farmer Peter Graham's family owns the grazing property at Bentley where Metgasco planned to drill the Rosella conventional-tight sands exploration well last year before its operations were suspended following the Bentley blockade.
A few days ago he told The Northern Star that: "The Northern Rivers has lost out big time to a faction of the community that has portrayed a lot of unproven untruths."
Only one user, Arewethereyet, commented in support of Mr Graham's statements.
"Well said, Mr Graham. Unfortunately, the government of the day has given in to the squeaky wheel," Arewethereyet said.
However backlash came from many others.
"One man's opinion against 87% who are most certainly NOT 'uninformed', Mr Graham. What an offensive statement, it just added to the many other lies to Sydney media and newspapers whilst the Bentley saga was going on," Ellemess said.
"Mr Graham does not live on the property he intended to fill with gas wells!" wolfweb said.
"The only people who would have had to live within the gasfield would have been the neighbours, not Mr Graham, safe on his own property far away in Codrington!"
"Mr Graham doesn't even seem to realise he's the one with the vested interest!" UnionStResident said.
"No wonder the gas industry could fill him full of these stories. It's a shame he hasn't done the research other residents have."
"Well Mr Graham their is plenty of property for sale in Tara or Chinchilla…" said user 3dPreDK8mchWMMGyPaulG.
"Go make some of those "GAS" farmers an offer... I'm sure they would be more than happy to sell to you..."
"I'm the properties neighbour and I have had a gutful of their whinging and lying about this," CharlesW7614199411108011 said.
"Peter Graham has been preaching lies and absolute garbage for some time now and if he thinks that there is any chance he will ever be welcome in this district again, think again.
"If you didn't know already the Bentley property is landlocked by residents who will not allow Metgasco or any of its contractors near their property.
"These people are not a 'squeaky wheel', they live here and they intend to stay living here as a gasfield-free community.
"Shame the Graham family want no part of that! We certainly want nothing to do with them."
Petesthoughts said we should "have a look back in five years and see if Mr Graham is right".
"There are thousands of these things in western Queensland so if they are safe we should soon find out," he said.
"The coal seam gas will still be here but from what I am hearing there are lot of health problems associated with this industry."
