Rape co-accused saw Gao having sex with alleged victim

A CHINESE TV producer accused of gang raping a Sydney woman has told a jury he hid in his hotel bathroom after feeling "awkward" at the sight of the alleged rape victim having sex with his co-accused, Chinese movie star, Yunxiang Gao, and calling out his name.

Jing Wang, 37, told a Sydney jury on Monday he, Gao and the woman had met up in his luxury Sydney hotel room in the early hours of 27 March last year after a long night of partying with up to 40 Chinese crew and friends had ended around 2.00am.

Wang said the threesome had been contemplating going to the bar at the Shangri La Hotel in the Rocks. But after taking a quick toilet break he had returned to the bedroom and saw the woman on his bed "riding on top of Mr Gao's' legs'.

"Mr Gao's left hand was pressed on the bed,' Wang told his barrister, Margaret Cunneen, SC, explained through his Mandarin interpreter.

"He was leaning backwards, (the woman) was actively kissing Mr Gao."

Wang said he had felt so "shocked" at the time he grabbed his phone and the beer he had been drinking and retreated back to the bathroom. He could still hear the couple making "noises", however, including the woman who he said was 'calling out Yunxiang's name, very softly: "Yunxiang, Yunxiang".

It's the fifth week of the NSW District Court trial of Wang and Gao who have pleaded not guilty of taking it in turns to rape the woman at the Sydney Shangri La Hotel in The Rocks.

The woman had been part of The Australian production crew working with the two men on a four-day film shoot in Sydney for Gao's Chinese TV series Love in Aranya.

The jury has been shown extensive CCTV vision of Wang and the woman touching, laughing hugging and kissing each other at a Sydney karaoke bar in the four hours leading up to the alleged gang rape.

The woman gave evidence she had been trying to repel Wang's advances during the night after his attentions had gone from "friend-like" to "weird" as the night wore on.

But three defence witnesses - two of them from Gao's personal entourage - told the court last week Wang and the woman had been "French kissing" so "passionately" at the karaoke bar they been too embarrassed to look.

The CCTV vision also shows the pair in long, lingering kisses - both at the karaoke bar and outside the hotel around 2.30am, just minutes before they went up to Wang's room and were joined by Gao.

Wang told the jury at no point did the woman tell him to stop kissing her or push him away.

"In fact if she said this I will leave her immediately,' Wang said.

He said the woman had performed oral sex on himself and Gao several times in the hotel room, but he couldn't get an erection after drinking too much Chinese wine.

He said after Gao had kissed her goodbye she had become so exasperated with Wang's failure to get an erection she had slapped his penis several times.

"At that time I was feeling very embarrassed so I grabbed her into my arms,' Mr Wang said.

"Then I hugged her and I kissed her. Then I fell asleep"

The trial continues.
